'Course it was 113 in my backyard last Sunday. It CAN be too hot to shoot!

Police closed the 210 freeway today and "detonated" a de-mil'd Mills Bomb found by the freeway. The grenade had a hole drilled through each one of the bumps... Apparently nobody in the bomb-squad had ever seen a Mills Bomb before, and thought it was supposed to be like that. When I was a kid, you could buy them in junk shops perfectly intact except for the Baratol and timing charges. We used to put primers under the striker and play "army man" with them. Anyway, the story is playing here like a real live bomb was found by the freeway. *Sigh*

Wow Mon, that's weird! Yesterday some construction workers dug up some kind of ordinance on the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Al. They shut down part of the base but the reporters did not know what it was that was dug up. About once a year or so somebody finds something there.

My father-in-law worked on the Mercury-Redstone project. He was a "known communist", so he could only work on projects that we wanted the Russians to know about! They launched a dog, we launched a chimp, etc. Imagine spending that kind of money now to send a dog or a chimp to Mars? Of course, back then they usually got their astronauts back... The Mars folks are looking to get rid of some pesky Air Force officers for good: "Okay, I'll go, but I want you to pay off my mortgage, and my wife wants a Hummer to drive the kids to soccer practice".
