I returned recently from visiting my mom in FL. Because flying with a firearm is a bit of a hassle, I keep a XD at her house (my name is on the deed also, and I'm there at least twice a year). I carried that XD for 5 days straight on the visit. While it's heavier than the Hellcat or Glock 26 that I usually carry, I enjoyed lugging the XD around.

I also had the opportunity to take it to a range. The XD is a good, reliable, accurate handgun.

At $440 USD MSRP the XD is a great value.

Wow, Unclebob, 2 nice Mod 2s!
I wish Mod 2s were still available. It's hard to understand why they were discontinued.
The original is probably still made just because it's on the roster in Comifornia.

I was fortunate to pick up a Mod 2 Sub-Compact 45 when they were still being made.
My old style Sub-Compact XD-9 is actually several years newer than my Mod 2.

The Tactical is now a bedside firearm due to our fine governor and his bought and paid for supreme court judges that only allows 15 round mags and Springfield does not have them.
I had to buy 10 round mags, but 10 rounds in a full size firearm to me is not acceptable when the compact has 13 round mags.

Yes the XD series are good pistols. The Glock on which most inexpensive striker fire pistols are based are also fair. However as an off the shelf production pistol in my opinion, just mine it has two major issues. 1 Being the trigger, which can be rectified at a low cost and the grip safety. Mag sizes are no issue, 10 rounds well placed by a fair shooter who knows how to sight and use the front sight it will suffice. Keeps the pistol lighter than 15 ROUND MAG.

I like both SA's Croatia-made pistols (HS Produkt) and Glocks. One or the other is with me daily. Both are amazingly reliable and tough. One thing in favor of the SA offerings is that they come with considerable polishing having been done at the factory. Glocks don't. I pay a gunsmith to polish Glocks. Yes, I could do it, but having modifications done by a professional might have advantages in court. For me, Glocks point more naturally, but for many people the 1911-ish grip angle of a XD feels more natural.
