I am new to the forum and may not be in the right room, but here goes. I am what they call a plinker. My "range" is an abandoned sand pit that is fairly close to home. I will set up cans and bottles and whatnot and slam away at them with my 1911A1 (Springfield Armory, of course). Sometimes I'll bring along other guns and do the same with them, but the 1911 .45 is without a doubt my favorite. Anybody else here that shoots at a less than "formal" setting?

Yes sir, that would be more like it. However, from your other posts I see that you live in Los Angeles or thereabouts and I thought that anybody could shoot anytime, anywhere in LA.

My favorite outdoor range....Wicen's Farm, Furlong, PA...which allows for reactive targets...steel...clays

http://wicenshootingrange.com/

When up in Jim Thorpe, PA, near Towamensing Trails...we usually visit an old quarry ( more junkyard ) that's been turned into a range of sorts.

Abandon cars...washing machines...dryers...sheets of steel...pipes...chunks of concrete...old computers...old chopped down trees...you name it.

Kinda neat to see how bullets perform in everyday items...

That's what I'm talking about! I've got a buddy whose old mini van is about done in. I'm trying to talk him into turning it into a big old target.

I go out in the yard. I've never been to a range,I think the closest one is around 25 miles away and I believe you have to be a member, not sure. It's a lot easier to just go outside.

It's country, they're use to it . There's a lot of shooting going on around here, always has been. I'm only a few miles from a beagle club and the Conservation Club. From the sounds of it I think they shoot a lot of clay pigeons over there. A lot target shoot around here too.

There's a lot of shooting going on around here all the time too. On New Year's Eve I just hold a bucket out the front door and I've got lead for the next year. Got a good, strong bucket. When the Laker's play a game we all go out shooting at cars too - Some have real purty flashing lights on top!

I shoot out back in my yard too...but just squirrels and chipmunks...even doves in season...with my .177 pellet rifle equipped with suppressor and 3x9 scope.

The cats in your neighborhood are going to piss all over your car for that.

If this still seems like the right place to the OP, I dunno...

Your red squirrels are cuter than our grey squirrels even with blood spurting out of all their orifices. Ours have this kind of evil stare, and they suddenly run toward you at full speed screaming "Die Motherf..."...
