Hello to all! What advantage does a manufacturer, such as Underwood, have in plating the brass casings with Nickel. I heard from sources that this type of ammo is very dirty and will make cleaning a handgun difficult. Got that info from another forum. I thought that Underwood is a good brand that makes descent ammo in most calibers and loads. Any info on this subject will be most appreciated.

All Nickel cases stay cleaner, less unburnt powder sticks to them. They are a softer case and only last about 10 reloads. They tumble easier and many shooters prefer them.
Ranges don't like them as they are hard to melt down and make new cases so the range manager will turn shooters off them. Many shooters prefer them. Easier to see for collection after a match. They also cost more.

Hello Sir Voltaire,
Every element of your explanation makes perfect sense. What was confusing to me was what i was told by, am assuming a seasoned and well informed, shooter, the exact opposite. I didn't believe that so i came to this forum to get a second opinion. The other person said that he would not have taken any if they were being given away free. If they were free, i would take as many as i could carry away. :) Also, i could not believe that a company like Underwood, would market a product that was known to have issues with fouling up handguns. In any case, i purchased three boxes and am anxious to try them out as i have never fired 68 Gr bullets.
So, many thanks for your good information. Have a great and safe day, Sir Voltaire.

My daughter has always been into horses, and she has competed for years. I thought that I would never experience a medium where there were so many self-appointed experts. That was, until I got into firearms.
It's fine to ask opinions, because it can be a very valuable resource. But, you also have to be able to discern what opinions are valid and what aren't, and probably most common, what elements of a given opinion are good and what's not.
As you get increasingly involved in any given forum, you will figure out who shoots straight (no pun intended), and who shoots bull. Voltaire gave you sound info.

I have only been shooting since the sixties so i have many things yet to learn, both as a instructor and competitor on then a nation level. I have learnt many things and i pass on what i can and do not suffer fools gladly. In all sports as you mentioned there are always self appointed experts and they preach. I am please you now know what is what and so you win. All the very best. Susan
