Hello from Ruston, LA! My name is Zac and I'm originally from Tampa, FL. While growing up in Florida I was around fishing more than shooting. No one in my family owns a gun (unless you include airsoft guns haha). Once I moved to Louisiana with my new bride we quickly realized that everyone loves to shoot and hunt.

So I'm currently looking for my first pistol and I really like the Springfield XD Mod2 9MM Service Model! It seems like a good all around gun for a first timer like me. I look forward to learning a lot from this forum and, I must say, I really like the way this forum is run with integrity. I'm thankful to be a part of it!

Check the online services, gunsamerica, gunbroker, buds, and anyothers.
There can be some differences, and then check against LGS
(local gun shop), or box store, i.e. gander, cabelas.
Don't be afraid to work one against the other, but there is not alot of
room on most prices. And after you buy it, are you going to go to
night sights? Are they available from MFG already installed? I believe
on your model they are....so you can save $50, from after the
    sale installation.
Take your time. I have as XD sub 3" 9mm gen 1 . . .no complaints!

Welcome to the forum. I need to get back to Ruston and stop at the Cajun Cafe and get some shrimp remoulade and chat with Kit.

CAV_Scout, thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look into those. I'm glad you've liked your sub 3" so far. Those seem very nice as well.

And thanks to everyone for welcoming me! I really appreciate it.

    Welcome Zac!!

I learned a ton from this forum and I also recently bought a Mod-2.
I never take much out of magazines for reviews, I listen to forum members that use their firearms and value their opinions.
As for price I found a dealer that was local on armlist and since he worked out of his home he passed the savings on, as was posted don't be afraid to shop and work one against the other.

Good Luck with your new found hobby...

    Welcome

Hey Zac! I have a XD Mod 2 and I love it! Since you're new to guns, I'd advise you to get used to the grip safety. It's a perfect safety WHEN you are used to it: nothing to flick, click, or get in the way in a self-defense situation, but effective in preventing accidental discharges when holstering. Enjoy!

zgilly21, hey. I have a Mod 2, .45 ACP. Thought it would be my EDC, but it's too heavy for me for EDC (might work for others!). I love the .45, but I'm carrying a XDs 9mm. Mostly because of the weight difference in the rounds, the 9mm is much lighter. Both are wonderful, extremely reliable firearms. For me, it's a simple question of what I can conceal with reasonable comfort.
