Hello to the forum. Recently picked up a new SA-35 from my LGS. Have not had a chance to get out and shoot yet.

Not sure if anyone has had this issue with their SA-35 - when going through familiarization (after confirming not loaded) I noticed that when I tried to apply the thumb safety, my thumb would sometimes go over the top of the safety. Upon closer inspection the left grip panel flares out towards the outside edge of the safety leaving little room for the thumb to engage it. So, I removed the left grip panel, filed down some of the wood and replaced. Re-installed grip - not enough wood removed. Repeated twice more until enough wood was removed so that my thumb would engage the safety each time. Removed the panel one more time and used a couple of needle files to continue the checkering into the flattened area. Now it engages each time.

Can't wait to get out and shoot it.

Wondering if there would ever be a 'commander' sized SA-35?

Welcome from MA (Middle Alabama) -- enjoy your tour.

I like what you did with the grip, in aircraft maintenance talk it's called "file it till it fits"
