I just turned 21 a few days ago and bought my very first gun. The Springfield XD 45 ACP 4 inch service model with thumb safety. Honestly the best birthday ever. I always thought that I would never be able to buy a gun because of my past but 22 hours later after filling out the 4473 form I got approved. I have shot other guns before but to be honest I am not experienced and don't know a whole bunch about them. This is the first time I shot a 45.

The day I applied for the gun I shot the glock 41 the 1911 rock island and of coarse the XD 45. The glock was uncomfortable and shot weird for me. The 1911 was comfortable and shot very well with tiny bit better grouping. The XD was my favorite cause it was very comfortable and good grouping plus all the amazing features on it.

Very good price brand new. 519 dollars. So happy with my purchase.

Welcome to the forum Scott! Between the three guns you checked out, you got the right one. I don't think there's anything wrong with RIA guns, but to get a 1911 as "range ready" as the XD, you have to spend a bit more money (and get a Springfield ;)).

    Scott,

Welcome to the forum. Feeding the animals (pic's) is always a good way to start out. Sounds like you made a good choice, one that fits your shooting style, as new as you may be. Keep practicing, and be careful, this can get a bit addictive.

Ok... I'm confused... I own 3 XD's... I've never seen an XD with a thumb safety. Have I gone mad??? Lol. Seriously... I thought I knew everything about them. Now this???

And welcome Scott! Thumb safety or not, you made the right choice! Get it the range as often as possible and practice, practice, practice!

It should say right on the slide and/or the grip. Post a picture of the left side...

Definitely not the XDS. The grip is much too long.

At least 500... But, the spring will usually wear in after about 100. Just take it out and shoot as often as you can.
