Love my pistol except for the safety "nub" hitting palm. Any advice?

I own a Spingfield pistol that I really enjoy shooting except for the "nub" on the safety that pushes into my palm when shooting. I've posted a picture of a Kimber gun with my Springfield just for comparison. This is my only 1911 style gun that pushes into my palm so much that I notice it and it's uncomfortable. I've circled in green the area I'm discussing. Is there a "smooth" option that Springfield or anyone else makes that I could swap?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. The extended grip safety helps to the extent that it allows some flexibility in the hands of folks of different sizes and in how they hold the weapon. In the past there have been issues with 1911's that have a grip safety of the style your Kimber has. People would try to fire and it wouldn't discharge until they adjusted their grip. I have both styles on various weapons and have had no problems either in grip or the safety bothering my palm. I haven't looked on-line but I'm sure there are options for you to swap the safety to one more to your liking.

Appreciate the response. I'm a novice when it comes to gun parts and I wasn't coming up with a ton online when trying to find compatible parts.

Interesting about the issues with the grip safety. I own just a few 1911s (I think four of them) and this is the only one that I experience I'd say "pain" with when shooting. I can wear a glove but that's annoying as it's the only pistol I have the issue with. I'll keep poking around. I've thought of filing the darn piece down! Ha. I emailed Springfield to ask. No response. I may need to try by phone. Wasn't sure if they sold an alternative but couldn't find it easily myself if so.

Thanks again.
I believe the Springfield grip safety is a .220 radius cut. I would probably try to find a Springfield Mil-Spec grip safety and swap it out.
Here is a video on how that's done. If you're not comfortable with trying it yourself you could always take it to a gunsmith or maybe send it to Springfield and they will do it for you.

Upon looking at the pictures of your weapon and the Springfield GI model, I'm not sure the grip safeties are interchangable. You may want to get hold of Brownells, Midway or one of the other large parts suppliers and see if they have an aftermarket grip safety without the bump that will fit your pistol.

The quickest and simplest way to address the issue of the grip safety is as suggested above. Go to a local gunsmith and he will adjust or change out the grip safety. Most do this in a day or less and at very little cost.

Appreciate the advice and details. I will look into this as suggested and may likely go the gunsmith route. Thanks again.
