Just purchased a new EMP4 9mm and signed up for the forums. Long time shooter / gun collector. Have owned an XDs in the past but no longer have it. The EMP4 is my latest SA and this one will stay with me a long while!

Hello all, looking forward to posting here!

Welcome aboard from another Hoosier. What part of the State are you from,I'm in Portland.
Welcome AMDnutt!

I'd be interested in hearing why you let go of your XD.
squirrelhunter - I'm in the Fort Wayne area, NE Indiana.

RevV - Was not a good shooter for me. Was combat accurate at best which I believe is due to the 3.3" barrel. That was OK but my hands aree large and the beavertail was not big enough which caused the slide to constantly bite the web of my hand. I usually shoot all of my guns a lot and 200-400 rounds at the range is not uncommon. This caused bleeding and cuts which was no fun. Just a bad fitment so I sent it down the road. I really did not want to as it was the Davidson FDE model and was a nice looking gun but it just didn't work for me. It did feed reliably and without trouble, even 200 grain SWC plated light reloads. It was a good little gun but just not for me.
Well you're not REAL far away then, there's not many from Indiana on here that I know of.

AMDnutt, Thank you for the detailed, thoughtful reply! I really appreciate it because I am moving toward the XD as my platform of choice. I traded in a Rock Island 1911 to get my XD Mod2 .45, and I traded in a Taurus 709 Slim to get my current EDC, a XDs 9 mm.

If there were an issue of which I was unaware with the XD line, I'd have liked to know about it! Your comments made it clear that it was a FIT issue, not an XD issue, and I thank you. Sorry the XD chewed up your hand.

It was a FIT issue that drove me to the XD line. Until Nov. of 2015, my pistol of choice was my Glock 22 (.40 cal). While I never missed the target with it, I did score some 7s or less every mag., which I never do with my .357. On a range trip in 11/2015, a friend let me shoot his XD .45. I shot it SO much better than my Glock! That's what let me to get my XD Mod2 (3 inch bbl.). I don't think it's shot a 7 in about 1000 rounds.

I have not tried a gen 4, but my gen 2 Glock and a friend's gen 3 Glock do not FIT me well. However, the regular XD, the XDs, and especially the XD Mod2 do fit me very well.

No gun fits all, and I greatly appreciate your sharing why you got rid of your XD.

squirrelhunter - I get by Portland at least once a month, I am on the road a lot for work. Your not far at all!

RevV - Your are correct, it was a fit issue, no problem with the gun. Only concerns I had with the XDs is the fiber optic front sight (I do not like them due to poor durability). One thing I was torn between was the grip texture, it did tend to tear up my hand without shooting gloves so I added a Talon rubber grip. I did carry the gun for about a year using an OWB Desantis mini scabbard and it was very comfortable. You should be very happy with them and I would not hesitate to carry one (after proper break in and testing of course!).

As for fitment, I am a Glock guy from waaaay back, they just fit me well. As you said, all guns do not fit all people. I always hate it when I am at the LGS and someone buys a gun based on looks. Glocks have always worked very well for my hands, both Gen2 and Gen3 but I do not like the feel of the Gen4 grip texture so I have avoided them. I also have several M&P's that fit me nicely as well. The Shield is a good firearm and currently my main carry rig along with several Rugers. I tend to carry a rig for 3-4 months and change it up to something else depending on weather. Summer is coming so the Ruger LCP 380 will be doing duty in the hot weather times!
