I recently got a Hellcat after MUCH research! Like the way it shoots and love the way it Carries. I anticipate it will become my year round EDC. So AFTER my purchase I see a couple threads here and there about the firing pin breaking ( mostly after excessive dry fire from what I can tell). I normally don't like to modify my EDC carry from stock in any functional way however I have been looking at the MCARBO Trigger/Striker/firing pin kit Springfield Hellcat All In One Pro Performance Bundle so I have two questions.

1. How "Real" is Striker breaking issue? I have seen dozens of reviews and thousands of rounds but only a few reports of this issue. Seems like with how popular this gun is and how many are sold if it was a significant issue you would hear more about it than the same few reports? If its an outlier my inclination is to just leave it stock and do a complete strip it every 500 rounds or so and look for wear .
2. If Anyone has used the MCARBO upgrade kit (or equivalent) how many rounds have they put through it and what is our confidence level for EDC?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum davetron2.0. Thank you for your service.
I don't have a Hellcat but like you I don't believe the striker has a major issue. I would think if it was a real problem then Springfield would offer a fix. I generally like to leave my EDC weapon as stock as possible, with maybe a sight swap being the exception. I have used some MCARBO springs to lighten the trigger pull on CZ SP-01 Tactical range gun. They are a good company and the CZ works fine.

Thanks for the response - as a side note most of the posts mentioning the striker issue ended with something like "So I guess I'll go back to my SIG 365 because its been 100% reliable" so it makes me skeptical that there wasn't some bias going into this since the hellcat is dominating the micro market

I did change the striker on my P365 EDC. Mine's not the earliest model but was experiencing primer drag. It didn't affect performance but was reported that after a while it could cause the striker pin to break. In the 365XL Sig changed the striker to help this issue and it was interchangeable with the 365, so I did the swap.

Typical Sig--putting products on the market before they are adequately tested and ready.

The Hellcat was thoroughly tested before hitting the market. Not sure about the Prodigy.

Hello and welcome to the Forum, Sir. Thank you for your service. Vietnam vet here (TET 1968).
I owned a Hellcat (pre OSP version) and installed the MCarbo spring kit with the SS striker sleeve. The reason i did that was to slightly lower the trigger pull; which it did that. Since i was not able to get to the range very often (medical issues), i did a large number of try fires. I estimate that with that handgun i dry fired, at a minimum, of ~ 6000 fires. However, all of those were using a training laser cartridge or snap caps. I never dry fired a single time without either the cartridge or snap caps. My striker pin never broke. Also, when i racked the slide, i would ride the slide forward since there were no rounds to seat properly. Then, i upgraded my original Hellcat to an OSP version with a manual safety and installed the same kind of spring kit as i had on the original. Now, i have dry fired my new Hellcat at least 3000 times with no striker pin failure. All of these dry fires were either with a training laser cartridge or snap caps. Although i am very new here and probably should not be making any comments, i just wanted to post my simple experience with dry fire and no striker pin breakage.

For my experience in as many as 10 different brands, including SA dry firing plays NO part in a firing pin breaking. There is or may always be an exception and manufacturers usually work out issues before releasing them on the market. Snap caps are sold on the basis that dry firing will harm a pistol, This may have been true in earlier firearms made from materials that was not as strong as materials in the past 30 years. Striker fire is no different to firing pins and on several pistols manufacturers make extended pins to cater for hard primers.
