Hi new member here ,just purchased a Garrison 1911 chambered in 45. Just a quick question do all springfield 1911s require a bit of effort to fully insert the magazine? I have a RIA 1911 and an M&P 2.0 9mm and the mags slide right in with little effort . Haven't fired it yet and was wondering if it's just a break in period thing , thanks

Welcome to the forum Pierre1968. Good to have you on board.
I haven't noticed that with the Springfield 1911's I've had, although I've heard of others that have mentioned it. I'm guessing you're inserting a fully loaded mag into the pistol with its slide in battery. You shouldn't have any inserting issue with the slide locked back. I would think after some use the mag springs would loosen up, or wear in, and it will probably take less effort then.

No seems to get a bit hung up while traveling into the release. Hopefully it breaks in

Have you tried various other magazines, besides the ones that came with the pistol? I would always be suspect of the magazine before the pistol itself. And it's perfectly normal to have more difficulty inserting a fully loaded magazine into a 1911, (or most any other auto pistol), with the slide in battery, than it is with the slide locked back.

If the magazine, (any magazine loaded or empty), goes in and out effortlessly with the slide locked back, then there is nothing wrong with it. With the slide forward and in battery, you are fighting the magazine spring by trying to further depress it with the top loaded round. Again, that's perfectly normal.

I went to the store where I purchased the firearm and inquired about it. The factory magazine goes in better than the wilson combat magazines I bought. The owner says they can be a little stiff at first but will eventually break in. He said some people will file down the mag release but he didn't recommend it. Over time everything should wear in naturally.

I would most certainly NOT take a file to anything. Run a few hundred rounds through it, and see how that goes. Then based on that, decide what, if any further actions should be taken. Keep the gun well lubricated during this time as well.
