Morning! I finally bought my first Springfield - an M1A SOCOM 16. It looked lonely as I was picking up my Rem 700 Tactical AAC-SD, so I thought I'd give it a good home. It'll get its first range time this afternoon.

I'm a semi-retired Navy FMF Corpsman with 22 years in service (14 alongside the Marines). Nowadays I help out in a Triumph motorcycles dealer...to help feed my bike and firearms habits.

Hello Doc, nice weapon you have there and welcome to the Springfield forum.
You will find there are quite a few veterans here on site.
Some crazier than others but a corpsman is always welcome.. ;)

Well, leaving the rifle stock...stock lasted about a minute. I have an Archangel stock on the way as well as a Vortex 2-7 Scout scope and rings. Why can't I just leave things alone? Great shooting rifle - I've only got two .308s, and of course the Remington 700 is going to be more accurate, but the SOCOM definitely held its own at 100 yards compared to my M1 Garand (shooting both with iron sights).

Thanks! I had a little fun with my SOCOM over the weekend. Why leave anything stock?
