If no-one has any comments or wants to post regarding Springfield armory pistols are there any items we could discuss on the many and fantastic CZ pistols. CZ make a great number of pistol for all manner of uses and calibers. I own 3 at the moment, the SP01, SP02 and czechmate. Possibly all have a better reputation than XD and several others. Also CZ make all their pistols in most calibers. Another great maker of fine pistols is S&W. Comparisons are difficult to make as we all have a bias. All i can say for certain with no exception is you get what you pay for and no more.

When I started shooting, S&W was the only firearm I would buy, never had any interest in Colt's.
I still have my S&W firearms from the 70's.
The only S&W on my bucket list is a 686 plus with a three inch barrel.
As with most manufacturers QC is almost non existent, so my firearm of choice now is Springfield Armory.

It's a Model 59 I bought off of a county deputy brand new.
The sheriff would not allow his deputies to carry a 9mm on or off duty.
I changed the grips because it looked like a cheap toy with the plastic ones.
I traded my Model 19 for the Model 27 above.
A Model 686 plus three inch is on my bucket list, I have what I need in plastics and want to go back to wood and steel.

You always regret selling down the road. I don't sell anything anymore, that's probably why I have so many in my collection now. I love em all, no matter the maker as long as they're collectable or steel, I have no use for plastic guns.
My latest is my Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW .300 Pistol, shown here pictured with my Springfield Saint Pistol .556 (Saint has a ton of upgrades that equal the value of the gun).

Tanfoglio are the same as CZ, copies as is the Swiss Sphinx. CZ cost more than the tanfoglio and the Sphinx is twice the price for the same item. John Browning would be proud. .40 Cal i find is easier to come by and the same as 10mm, almost.

May i ask why you chose 10mm over S&W 40 cal? We found 10mm difficult to come by and more expensive. I Loaded .40cal using 165 grn projectile and 6.9 grns powder, come out to around 1080 f/s. That was many years ago, now all the rage is .357 Sig using mainly .40 neckdowns.

Why? Because the full Norma 10mm loads, like they were intended to use, rocks! The .40cal is an "abomination" of the 10mm for girly people that couldn't originally handle the power of the 10's (truly, many agents couldn't handle it in qualifications, thus the .40 was developed by Smith). As far as availability, it's as plentiful as .45acp around here, but I believe the advent of people hunting with it has helped. There's definitely been a resurgence of the tens in last few years. If you think the .40cal and 10mm are close, you've never shot the full powered 10mm loads like they were intended to shoot then.
155grain@1,500fps with 774 ft. lbs. of energy will get your attention! The 180 grain@1,300fps with 676 ft. lbs. of energy is what the FBI used in the 80's isn't anything to sneeze at either? (stats taken off the Underwood Ammo website).
A few of my other tens.
S&W 1066 plus
S&W 1066 & 1076 bottom two on cutting board with my other 3rd gen S&W .45acp's on top.

An interesting read your post. .40 cal is not for girly people as they are the same case .424 or .425 diameter but a bit shorter. If i wanted to stop a grizzly bear i to would carry something more than a 9mm. So there are pistols for different situation and conditions, hunting, self defence, military etc. Also a consideration is location, small office or wide open spaces, or even aircraft. I like 9mm, +p ammo as an all round firearm. I also had the opportunity of shooting an FN 5.7 still lethal at 100 ++ yards. If i want recoil i have used a .454 casull, useless in all situations as is a .50 AE Desert eagle, yet some people claim they are fantastic. I for many years carried a .357 magnum and after practice shooting it on the range i felt uncomfortable after about 50 rounds. To me a pistol has one overriding function, to stop a threat. It can be used for multiple purposes, but self defence is a great reason to carry, beats running away. The choice of firearms is almost endless, as is ammunition type. I am more an ammunition person than the calibre. A good pistol with crap ammunition is not as good as a crap pistol with the best ammunition. Try 50 grn ammo in 9mm, the result is as lethal, the velocity near 2000 ft/sec compare it to a 147 grn 9mm, a lot slower etc. Hence to me a .40 with the correct ammunition for situation was my choice. We are all different.

lol, Don't think I'm calling you a "girly man" because you prefer the 40.
However, you asked me why I preferred the 10 over the 40 and I was giving you my response, doesn't make it right or wrong, just my answer. The .40 was in fact develop by Smith specifically because there were FBI agents that couldn't handle the 10 in qualifications. Again, doesn't mean it's right or wrong, just a fact. You could argue, had it not been for the 10, they're might not even be a 40?

I totally agree with your response as we are all different have many hold different views. So what are your thoughts on the balance of my comment?

Oh I totally agree, it's no longer a matter of caliber vs. ammo anymore with the advance they have out now with the new defensive loads. Ballistics have jumped into the 21st century with a significant amount of stopping power! I feel very comfortable carrying my Walther PPK/S .380 (on occasion) with the correct defensive loads.
