Ha! I had forgotten about this thread. I ended up with the XDS, 3.3" barrel, .45 ACP, and a few extended magazines. I've come to truly enjoy the weapon although I'll never be as accurate with it as I am with my SA Champion Lightweight Operator.

Here's the XDS:

Nice CLWO! It's better looking than the XDs, but if I could only have one, it would be the XDs.

I like mine and now I am thinking of adding a tactical for range use.

Default Questions about 3.3 inch XD Mod 2 in .45ACP

I'm contemplating the 3.3" XD Mod 2 in a .45 ACP but have never shot such a short barreled beast. All my .45 time has been spent with full size 1911's. So, I have questions.

1. If you have a 1911 and an XD Mod 2, how's the recoil?

2. It looks like the rear sight is adjustable. Have any of you XD Mod 2 owners adjusted it for windage?

3. How's the grip with the 9 round magazine? Any problems with it being too short?

4. Lastly, (honest!!!) how's the grip with the extended magazine?

I'd also, if you have the time, hear about your general impressions of the weapon such as using it for a carry piece, accuracy, ease of cleaning, etc...

My thanks in advance. I appreciate any input you can provide.

I own and frequently carry a 3.3 XD Mod 2 .45ACP. I LOVE it!

1. Regarding recoil vs. a 1911, I've never shot the 2 back to back, but the recoil on the XD Mod 2 .45 is certainly not an issue in my opinion.

2. I have never adjusted the sights because I have never found it necessary. The only shooting I do with it is center mass, "combat accurate" type shots. For what I use the gun for an 8 is as good as a 10. For that kind of shooting my gun was plenty accurate out of the box.

3. I do find the 9 rd. mag a little bit too short because it forces me to curl my smallest finger under the mag. This is not a major problem, AND a Pearce grip extension completely solves the issue for me. If I adjust my holster to a slightly forward cant, then the Pearce grip extension does not affect conceal-ability.

4. The grip with the extended mag has more than enough room for a solid 2-handed grip. I find it VERY comfortable. Despite the obnoxious lettering, the GRIP ZONE works! The gun does look a little odd with the extended mag because the grip looks longer than the slide.

My 3.3 XD Mod 2 .45 ACP is the gun I carry second most often, usually 2-3 days per week. I bought it to be my primary CC gun, but for me, even with only 9 rds. of .45 ACP it's a little heavy and a little fat to carry all day every day. However, if you are used to carrying a full-sized 1911 with 8 or 9 rds., then you will find the XD refreshingly light. Yet, compared to your 1911 it will seem short and fat.

For everyday carry I use a XDs 9mm. It's significantly lighter, a lot thinner, and easier to conceal. I like the .45 better (I LOVE it; it's my favorite gun), but the 9 mm is an easier EDC gun for me.

All guns in the XD family are super fast and easy to clean, especially compared to a 1911. All you have to do is:
1. Drop the mag
2. Lock back the slide
3. Flip up the take-down lever
4. Release the slide
5. Dry-fire as you pull the slide forward and off of the frame
6. Clean individual parts (slide, barrel, spring, frame) and reassemble.

Doing steps 1-5 takes far less time than typing them!
